First and foremost, please continue to practice social distancing during this time. But if you want to keep in shape and at least in good mental shape, and you are used to exercising and being out doors or in a gym; please use caution. Here are a few tips on how to stay physically and mentally fit while quarantined.
1. If taking advantage of running or walking outside, ALWAYS take your clothes and shoes off before entering common areas of your home. If you can, remove all of your clothing and shoes in your garage, mud room, or laundry room. Immediately wash these items, or leave out in the sun at least 6 hours to sanitize (this has not been proving to kill the virus, but just a general suggestion to aid in halting its progression). Continue to stay at least 6 feet away from other persons. If you see someone actively sneezing and/or coughing, back further away. Try not to run in their immediate path or behind them.
2. Planet Fitness is offering FREE online exercise sessions to everyone. You do not need to be a member. Please go to for https://www.facebook.com/planetfitness/ more information.
3. Find a quiet space in your home and relax. Take deep breaths. Light a candle or incense. Meditate. Journal. Draw. Even get a color book and crayons out to de-stress at https://www.justcolor.net/ .
4. Take advantage of free online meeting apps like ZOOM. Hold book club readings, discussions, or even play games with friends, family and coworkers. Go here https://zoom.us/ for details on how to sign up.
5. Learn a new skill or hobby. Skill Share is a great way to take on a new idea or class you have been wanting to do, but didn't have time. If you are interested, email our intern Shiane at smw52578@gmail.com and she will send you an invite for you to enjoy up to 2 free months.
