Although female athletes have received recognition in known sports such as basketball and soccer, the lesser known sports that women compete in are beginning to rise and aren't too not far behind. In the last 4 years, women’s boxing has began to be televised sparingly. Dominating female boxer, Clarissa Shields is the one you see the most. Shields’ athletic ability, tenacity and determination has changed and increased the viewing numbers and has increased ratings for women’s boxing. This women's boxing deserves the same chance and media coverage as men’s. Again, it’s time for change and the only way to continue that conversation is for more female athletes to show up and show out! I always have stood by the statement, “Make them remember you.” Clarissa Shields is doing it for boxing. Young boxers can see and begin to work into an opportunity to become a televised female professional boxer as well. Additionally, a sport we often see dominated by Korean women, the sport of archery is becoming more prevalent in the USA for women. Normally, female archers are coached by males but recently it has become more prevalent in hiring female head coaches to increase focus on female high performance programs. I see this as a step in the right direction of allowing women more opportunities within male dominated sports. At the end of the day, people want to view and be coached by similar parties that are relatable and comfortable. Ensuring that women are in this position will provide the lens needed on this sport and give a stamp to another sport that women are excelling in and are present within. I've never seen an archery competition but it’s beginning to peak my interest in how and what it entails. ~Nikki
